Katsina Police Refute Claims of Fatalities During Protests

-

The Police Command in Katsina State has confirmed that no lives were lost during the recent nationwide hunger protests.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the command’s spokesman, addressed the issue in a statement on Saturday. He clarified that a viral video showing a security agent lying motionless, allegedly shot dead by a police officer, was misleading and taken out of context.

“The command wishes to address a misleading viral video circulating on social media platforms of a security agent lying motionless on the ground, alleged to have been shot dead by a police officer while trying to disperse protesters,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated. “The video is manipulated and taken out of context as there was no such shooting incident throughout the command during the protest.”

He explained that the security agent in the video was actually an officer of the NSCDC who had fallen from a patrol vehicle due to an accident at the protest scene. The officer was promptly taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina, where he was treated and discharged.

Sadiq-Aliyu’s statement aims to dispel rumors and provide accurate information regarding the events during the protests in Katsina.
