The Jigawa State Government has uncovered a total of 6,348 ghost workers through its Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise. The discovery was announced by the State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, following a briefing on the outcomes of the state Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Umar Namadi on Monday.
The audit led to significant financial savings for the state, amounting to N314,657,342.06 monthly, or N3,775,888,809.72 annually. The state government emphasized that the exercise, which involved the enrollment of staff into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS), was aimed at sanitizing the system to ensure accurate salary payments and worker entitlements, rather than targeting individual employees.
In addition to the biometric verification, the state executive council approved the establishment of a Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service. This center will facilitate the completion of the staff audit, helping to further streamline payroll management and prevent future discrepancies.
