Ikorodu City chairman, Sanmi Doherty, has downplayed expectations of his team winning the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title despite their impressive form.
Currently unbeaten in six consecutive NPFL matches, the Oga Boys sit third on the table with 24 points, four behind league leaders Rivers United. However, Doherty insists the team is focusing on enjoying their games rather than chasing lofty ambitions.
Speaking to Flashscore, Doherty said:
“I believe people should temper expectations regarding NPFL title ambitions and securing a continental ticket. We’re not under pressure to achieve these goals.”
He emphasized the importance of consistency and maintaining a grounded approach:
“We’ll keep focusing on taking it one step at a time and see how far we can progress. My players are enjoying their game, and I believe that’s what matters most.”
Doherty added that prioritizing player satisfaction over external pressures helps build a solid foundation for long-term success.
Ikorodu City’s disciplined strategy may not include title contention this season, but their consistent performances have made them a team to watch in the NPFL campaign.
