Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figure in Kano, has urged President Bola Tinubu to hold Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf responsible for the destruction, vandalism, and loss of lives and property during the recent hunger protest.
Speaking to reporters in Kano, Kwankwaso claimed that Governor Yusuf incited the public to protest, promising to meet them at the Government House to forward their complaints to the presidency.
“The hungry and angry people engaged in mayhem and wanton destruction of lives and property for which the governor should take responsibility,” Kwankwaso stated. “He called the people to protest, and now that there has been loss of life and property, he must be held accountable and provide compensation.”
Kwankwaso encouraged victims to seek legal redress against the state, noting that despite Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s call for peaceful political engagement, the governor’s actions led to the chaos.
Furthermore, Kwankwaso criticized the governor for the ongoing hardships in the state, pointing out that President Tinubu had allocated approximately N570 billion to states, with Kano receiving no less than N50 billion. He suggested that mismanagement at the state level was the real issue, not federal policies.
“Governors are the problem, not President Tinubu,” he stated. “They have the funds but have failed to use them for the people’s benefit. The recent destruction of the NCC ICT hub, which could have benefited over 11,000 people, is a clear example of mismanagement and misplaced priorities.”
Kwankwaso highlighted several projects benefiting the northwest under the current administration, including the resumption of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road, the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipelines, the Northwest Development Commission, and the Zaria-Zamfara road. He also mentioned the construction of 1,000 housing units in Katsina, Kano, Yobe, and other southern parts as part of President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
He concluded by urging the masses to understand that President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have the nation’s best interests at heart, and to refrain from destructive actions that undermine development efforts.
