The Edo Salvation Group (ESG) has called on Senator Adams Oshiomhole to issue a public apology for what it describes as an offensive insult towards Edo women. The group’s national coordinator, Imman Ekpe, condemned Oshiomhole’s recent remarks about First Lady Mrs. Betty Obaseki, characterizing them as a collective affront to the dignity and culture of Edo women.
Oshiomhole, speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally last week, had disparaged Mrs. Obaseki by labeling her as “barren,” suggesting she was unfit to discuss marital matters. This comment has been perceived by the ESG as an unjustified attack beyond political disagreements, reflecting poorly on both Oshiomhole’s respect for the state’s women and his own political conduct.
The ESG highlighted that this is not an isolated incident, recalling previous instances where Oshiomhole has publicly ridiculed Edo women, including his derogatory comments about a hardworking Edo widow and his controversial relationship with his late wife, Clara. They also noted Oshiomhole’s choice to marry abroad, which has fueled speculation and whispers.
The group stressed that such attacks, particularly directed at the First Lady, represent a low point in political discourse. They have called for Oshiomhole to issue a sincere and comprehensive apology to Mrs. Obaseki and all Edo women, denouncing his remarks as a gross disrespect to their honor and values.
