Govt Begins Distribution of 2,000 CNG-Powered Tricycles

-

The Federal Government has officially launched the distribution of 2,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered tricycles to empower Nigerian youth. The initiative, part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, kicked off at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja on Tuesday, coinciding with Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary celebrations.

Michael Oluwagbemi, the Project Director of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, emphasized that the distribution aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s promises to reduce transportation costs, improve economic conditions, promote environmental sustainability, and create job opportunities for the youth. He noted that the CNG tricycles are assembled in Shagamu, Ogun State, and their deployment is expected to generate employment in various sectors, including operations and maintenance.

“I’m pleased to announce that we are here to deliver on Mr. President’s promise by handing over 2,000 CNG-powered tricycles that will serve as the foundation of this transportation revolution,” Oluwagbemi stated. He also highlighted that over 50 young people were trained in assembling the tricycles, contributing to local job creation.

He remarked, “These tricycles represent a small step towards a future powered by gas, ensuring Nigeria’s development and transforming our abundant resources into wealth and jobs for all Nigerians.”

Dr. Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, the Minister for Youth Development, added that the tricycles would help alleviate transportation challenges faced by citizens and transport operators. She praised the Tinubu administration’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for young people, stating, “In this crucial time of economic reforms, this intervention will provide significant relief, demonstrating our dedication to improving living conditions for youth.”

The Minister also mentioned that the National Youth Investment Fund would support young investors in the transportation sector as the Ministry collaborates with the Presidential Initiative on CNG to achieve its target of deploying 2 million tricycles across the country.
