The Bayelsa State Government has announced a one-week extension to the 2024 flood break school resumption date. Originally set for Monday, November 18, the new resumption date is now Monday, November 25, 2024, to allow floodwaters that have affected many school premises to subside.
In a circular issued on Friday, Simon-Peter Okene, the Permanent Secretary of the State’s Ministry of Education, explained that the extension was necessary due to the current flood situation impacting schools across the state. He also advised school operators in the private sector to follow the state’s approved school calendar and ensure that safety measures, such as grass cutting and fumigation, are completed before resumption.
The government expressed empathy for all Bayelsans affected by the floods, urging stakeholders in the educational sector to remain vigilant in ensuring that school premises are fully prepared for reopening.
