Expert Highlights Barriers to Hybrid Seed Adoption in Nigeria

-

Kolade Dada, Managing Director of Agri-SeedCo Nigeria Limited, has highlighted the challenges faced by Nigerian farmers in adopting hybrid seeds. Speaking in Makurdi, Dada identified affordability and lack of information as major barriers. He noted that smallholder farmers, in particular, struggle to afford hybrid seeds and often receive little guidance on effective usage, such as proper fertilization and adapting to climatic conditions.

Dada emphasized SEEDCO’s efforts to support smallholders by offering locally produced, affordable hybrid seeds. He also discussed the company’s strict quality standards, explaining that they frequently discard seeds that don’t meet rigorous internal benchmarks. SEEDCO partners with the National Agricultural Seed Council to maintain high standards, promoting food security and improved farmer earnings across Nigeria.
