Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi will not face formal action from the Football Association (FA) despite wearing customized rainbow armbands in recent matches.
Guehi initially drew attention after sporting an armband reading “I love Jesus” during Crystal Palace’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United. He later donned one stating “Jesus loves you” in the match against Ipswich Town on Tuesday.
Premier League regulations prohibit religious messages on clothing or equipment under Rule A4. However, according to reports from the PA news agency, the FA has decided not to penalize Guehi for the incidents.
In the last two rounds of Premier League matches, captains have worn rainbow armbands to support the Rainbow Laces campaign, an initiative led by the league in collaboration with LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall. The campaign, aimed at promoting inclusion and support for the LGBTQ+ community, concludes with Thursday’s matches.
With the campaign ending, Guehi is not expected to wear a rainbow armband again in upcoming fixtures.
