The Enugu State Police Command has successfully arrested 123 suspected criminals and rescued 19 kidnap victims in operations conducted across the state between July and August 2024. Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday, where he also showcased the weapons recovered from the suspects, including 15 AK-47 rifles, 25 Pump Action guns, and 710 rounds of live ammunition.
Uzuegbu reported that many of the suspects have been arraigned and are currently remanded in custody, while ongoing investigations will lead to further prosecutions. Addressing recent incidents, including an attack on policemen at Four Corners, Ozalla, and a kidnapping at the Enugu State College of Health Technology, Oji River, Uzuegbu clarified that the police thwarted these criminal activities, debunking rumors of widespread kidnappings.
He commended the efforts of Governor Peter Mbah in supporting the police’s crackdown on crime, particularly through the demolition of properties used for criminal activities in the state.
