Ahmedu Obiabo, famously known as Blackface, has shed light on the longstanding feud between him and his former bandmate, Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Face.
From allegations of copyright infringement to claims that 2Face negatively impacted his music career, Blackface has never shied away from expressing his grievances towards 2Face.
In a recent candid interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, Blackface, a founding member of the now-defunct music group Plantashun Boiz, reminisced about the band’s inception in his father’s backyard in Otukpo, Benue State.
He recalled that after forming the two-man band with Tubaba (then known as 2Face), they secured some gigs and traveled to various northern cities to perform. However, Blackface decided to prioritize his education and returned to the Institute of Management Technology in Enugu.
“I said, let me finish my school first, and then I’ll continue my music. And then, when I went to IMT, Tuface came to meet me in IMT, and he was like the music was still in his head, and he didn’t know how to go about it. I am that guy to straight-line anything you want to do, if it’s music, especially. And I said the number one thing you have to do is stop jumping from group to group. I’m preparing to go to Lagos, but I could take you with me. And that was how I brought Tuface with me from Enugu to Lagos,” Blackface explained.
Upon their arrival in Lagos, the ‘Hard Life’ singer revealed that they stayed in Obalende with his brother, Sam Ahmedu, before relocating to FESTAC.
During this period, they crossed paths with concert promoter Nelson Brown, dabbled in the Rothman’s rhythm, embarked on tours, encountered the Remedies, and navigated various aspects of the music industry.
Blackface disclosed that it took up to six months before 2Face agreed to allow Faze to join the group. This revelation provides insight into the early days of their music journey and the foundation of their collaboration and eventual disputes.
