The All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted claims of a splinter group, Team New Nigeria (TNN), breaking away from the party to form a new political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
TNN, led by National President Modibbo Farakwai, announced on Sunday its intention to establish a political party aimed at tackling poverty, insecurity, and corruption. The group claimed it had the support of 26 million voters nationwide.
Reacting to the development, APC Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, dismissed the group, asserting that its members were not recognized card-carrying members of the APC. He added that genuine APC members would address grievances through internal mechanisms rather than exiting the party.
Duru downplayed the potential threat to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, emphasizing that democratic competition is welcome, provided it complies with the law.
The alleged splinter group’s announcement has stirred conversations on the evolving political landscape as Nigeria approaches its next general election.
