Abdulahi Umar, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, has raised concerns about the outcome of the recent local government elections, where the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all chairmanship and councillorship positions. Umar argued that the PDP’s dominance was unjustified, as their candidates were not properly elected according to the Electoral Act.
“We are waiting for the 2027 general elections to revolt against the PDP through the ballot box,” Umar said. He pointed out that although the APC did not participate in last Saturday’s local government election, it still garnered more votes in every local government area of the state.
Umar explained that the APC’s poor performance in the 2023 general elections was due to internal divisions within the party, but he emphasized that these issues would be resolved before the next election. “We have learned our lessons and will not allow such mistakes to repeat themselves,” he assured. “The APC is accepted by the people of the state, but the PDP grabbed power by chance.”
The APC chieftain also indicated that party leaders were closely monitoring the situation in Zamfara and planning their strategy for the 2027 elections. “We are prepared to wrestle power from the PDP in the state. Forget about the fracas within the APC, everything will be settled before then,” Umar promised.
