The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged former governor Godwin Obaseki to walk freely through the streets of Benin City for a reward of ₦50 million, claiming it would test his popularity with residents.
Prince Kassim Afegbua, an APC chieftain and member of the Edo State Assets Verification Committee, issued the challenge during a press briefing after the committee’s inauguration by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Afegbua dismissed allegations made by the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the new administration. He refuted claims that the APC government had shut down the e-governance platform, labeling it as “e-corruption.” He also rejected accusations of thuggery and emphasized that the new administration remains focused on rebuilding the state.
Afegbua explained that the APC’s early initiatives and policies, including the assets verification exercise, were well-received by Edo residents. He encouraged the PDP to persuade Obaseki to accept the street walk challenge as a measure of his popularity.
He accused the former governor of orchestrating attacks against the APC but assured that such efforts would not distract the party from delivering developmental projects.
This challenge has sparked discussions in Edo’s political landscape, highlighting the rivalry between the APC and the PDP.
