Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has committed to continuing his boxing career despite a surprising loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Joshua’s attempt to reclaim the heavyweight title ended in a dramatic fashion, as Dubois knocked him down multiple times before delivering a decisive right hand in Round 5, marking Joshua’s fourth career defeat and allowing Dubois to retain his IBF belt.
In the post-fight press conference, Joshua expressed his determination to keep fighting. “You might be wondering if I still want to continue, and the answer is yes. We aimed for success but came up short. Does that mean we should walk away? No, we will fight another day,” he stated, as reported by ESPN.
Joshua faced his first knockdown at the end of Round 1, following a powerful left jab from Dubois that stunned the audience. He praised Dubois for his performance, acknowledging the skills displayed in the ring.
“We have to give credit where it’s due—Daniel performed excellently. Thanks to my team for their preparation, though there were mistakes made. In boxing, fine margins can cost you dearly,” Joshua remarked.
Promoter Eddie Hearn hinted at a possible rematch, noting that Joshua has a commitment for another fight during the Riyadh Season, potentially setting the stage for a rematch with Dubois or a bout against Tyson Fury.
Hearn emphasized that Joshua desires significant fights as he approaches the later stages of his career. “Joshua wants to be in big fights moving forward; a simple tune-up match isn’t what he’s looking for. This loss was tough, but it’s not the end of his journey,” Hearn concluded.
