Ahead of the September 21st governorship election in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, has pledged to prioritize the health sector by establishing Public Health Centres (PHCs) in each of the state’s 192 wards if elected.
Speaking in Etete, Benin City, Akpata emphasized the importance of health for the daily activities of residents and promised that his administration would ensure accessible health care in local communities. He stressed that his party is committed to fulfilling its campaign promises, contrasting this with the performance of previous administrations since the beginning of the fourth republic in 1999.
Akpata also highlighted the need to focus on developing inner cities and areas that have been neglected. He argued that democracy should be people-centered, with governments working for the benefit of the populace rather than disconnecting from them after gaining power.
