Renowned Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has once again taken to Instagram to express her deep concern regarding the substantial tax demands placed upon her by the Lagos state government. This issue isn’t new, as she had previously raised these concerns in June, initially drawing sympathy and support from her followers.
In her recent Instagram update, Iyabo Ojo revealed that the tax authorities had demanded a staggering 18 million Naira, to be paid over just three months. This imposing financial burden, even for a celebrity like Iyabo, becomes further complicated given her additional financial responsibilities, including business expenses, mortgage payments, and loan repayments. She is also the primary provider for an extended family of over 30 people.
Iyabo Ojo stressed the growing costs of living in Nigeria, with the rising prices of essential commodities like fuel and food, adding to her financial challenges.
One of the most notable aspects of Iyabo Ojo’s update is her suggestion that her outspokenness during the election period may have played a role in the tax authorities’ demands. She insinuated that her support for a political party that didn’t win might have resulted in consequences, hinting at potential political influence over tax-related matters.
Iyabo Ojo concluded her Instagram post by advising that people should not blame celebrities who choose not to engage in political matters or express their views. She underscored the significant consequences of being outspoken, and her current tax situation may be a direct result of her political affiliations.
