A pressure group, PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, has dismissed the purported expulsion of the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara, as a “joke taken too far.” The group’s National Coordinator, Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu, described the move by former Acting Spokesman of the Abia PDP, Elder Abraham Amah, as a “futile hatchet job by desperate political hirelings.”
This comes just 24 hours after Amah, who claims to be the PDP chairman in Abia, announced Wabara’s expulsion over alleged anti-party activities. Amah and his group had earlier suspended the BoT Chairman for his remarks praising Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party.
The PDP group, however, argued that Amah and his associates lack the legitimacy to suspend or expel Wabara, noting that a court injunction restrains them from taking such actions. They urged Amah to challenge Wabara in court rather than seek media attention.
The group insisted that Wabara remains focused on reviving the PDP and dismissed Amah’s claims as baseless. They emphasized that the Abia PDP currently lacks a recognized leadership until a valid congress is held.
Furthermore, the statement accused Amah’s faction of acting as agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilize the PDP. It highlighted that the PDP National Working Committee had previously nullified Wabara’s suspension, making this latest expulsion attempt another “exercise in futility.”
The group questioned how Amah’s faction could expel a BoT Chairman they did not appoint, accusing them of hypocrisy. They pointed out that if Wabara’s commendation of Governor Otti constituted anti-party activity, then PDP members openly supporting APC leaders should also face sanctions.
Despite these political maneuvers, the group affirmed that Wabara, PDP governors, and other progressives remain committed to repositioning the party for the 2027 elections. They vowed not to allow political merchants to undermine the PDP’s future.
