The Osun State High Court in Ile-Ife has adjourned the hearing of a suit challenging the February 22 local government elections to January 17, 2025.
The suit was filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 19 of its disqualified candidates, seeking to halt the elections. They cited irregularities and their exclusion by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
The claimants are seeking two main reliefs: the invalidation of OSSIEC’s amended election notice published on July 18, 2024, and the inclusion of disqualified candidates if the elections proceed.
During the hearing presided over by Justice Adedapo Adeniji, counsel for the All Peoples Party (APP), Moruf Adediran, requested to join the suit. Meanwhile, OSSIEC’s counsel, Musibau Adetunbi, proposed an out-of-court settlement, suggesting that the claimants withdraw their challenges in exchange for a reconsideration of their nominations.
The court adjourned the case for either the hearing of pending applications or a settlement report, with both parties set to present their positions on January 17.
