NNPP Condemns Harassment and Arrest Attempts on Kano Governor’s Spokesperson Dawakin-Tofa

-

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly condemned the ongoing attempts to arrest Mallam Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity for the Kano State Government.

In a statement released on Wednesday, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson accused police authorities of persistently attempting to arrest Dawakin-Tofa despite a court injunction prohibiting such actions. Johnson stated that the efforts to detain Dawakin-Tofa appear to be driven by a petition from former Kano State Governor and National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, or his associates.

The NNPP spokesman criticized the police’s actions as an abuse of power and a violation of the rule of law. He revealed that Dawakin-Tofa had gone into hiding to avoid an unlawful arrest. Johnson expressed concern that the situation in Kano is worsening, highlighting the impact of such abuses on the state’s political and social stability.

He also criticized the ruling party’s leadership, claiming it tarnishes its credibility and raises doubts about foreign investment in a country where institutions meant to uphold the law are undermining it. NNPP has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to prevent further harassment of Dawakin-Tofa, emphasizing that his fundamental human rights must be respected.
