Ebonyi APC Chair Warns Workers Against Manipulation by Politicians

-

The Ebonyi State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Stanley Okoro Emegha, has urged state workers to resist the influence of what he described as “disgruntled politicians” attempting to incite them against the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Emegha highlighted the governor’s efforts to improve worker welfare, including a 20% salary increase, a N100,000 Christmas bonus last year, and an enhanced minimum wage of N75,000—exceeding the new national minimum of N70,000.

In a statement, Emegha criticized the recent but aborted strike action by state civil servants, attributing it to external manipulation. “To think civil servants in Ebonyi would contemplate a strike despite Governor Nwifuru’s commendable efforts shows undue influence by malicious politicians,” he said.

He praised the governor for addressing the welfare of retirees, paying gratuity arrears from 1996 to 2023, and implementing empowerment programs for workers. Emegha called on workers to employ dialogue rather than adversarial tactics when addressing grievances.

Governor Nwifuru, through his “People’s Charter of Needs” agenda, has emphasized civil service as the “engine room” of governance and continues to prioritize worker welfare, Emegha concluded.
