Controversial Nigerian pastor, Tobi Adegboyega, is set to be deported to Nigeria following a ruling by the UK Immigration Tribunal. The decision comes after investigations revealed financial misconduct and improper activities linked to his church, SPAC Nation.
SPAC Nation, once known for its outreach to young people, was shut down by UK authorities after Adegboyega failed to account for over £1.87 million. Reports suggest the church allegedly encouraged members to engage in questionable activities, including taking large loans and selling blood to fund its operations.
Adegboyega, who arrived in the UK on a visitor’s visa in 2005 and has since overstayed unlawfully, argued that deportation would violate his right to family life under the European Convention on Human Rights. His claim was dismissed, with the Home Office asserting that his presence in the UK was not of substantial benefit.
The tribunal judgment highlighted concerns over SPAC Nation’s financial irregularities and allegations of abuse, leading to the conclusion that deportation was justified. Despite Adegboyega’s claims that the accusations were politically motivated, the tribunal upheld the Home Office’s case.
Adegboyega is expected to return to Nigeria in compliance with the tribunal’s decision.
