The National Judicial Council (NJC) has dismissed as false the recent rumor alleging the deaths of two Appeal Court justices who served on the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. Justices Mistura Bolaji-Yusuf and Boloukuoromo Ugo, part of the panel that upheld President Bola Tinubu’s election, were reported to have died under mysterious circumstances.
The NJC’s Secretary, Ahmed Saleh, confirmed that the rumors are baseless, stating, “Please ignore the news, it is a lie. The justices are alive, well, and doing their jobs.” Additionally, a staff member at the Court of Appeal affirmed that the report was false and aimed at spreading mischief.
Justice Bolaji-Yusuf and Justice Ugo, along with their panel members, had previously ruled to dismiss the election petitions filed by Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, affirming Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
