Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman expressed pride following Atalanta’s 3-0 win against Serie A leaders Napoli. The victory, achieved at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, lifted Atalanta to second place in the table with 22 points, just three behind the reigning champions.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side delivered a dominant performance, with Lookman scoring twice before Mateo Retegui added a third. This match marked Atalanta’s fifth consecutive Serie A win and ended Napoli’s run of three clean sheets.
“It was a big performance from the team,” Lookman told DAZN. “We’re happy, and three points away from the leaders is never easy, so we’re proud of that.”
Lookman, 27, recently celebrated his 14th-place finish in the Ballon d’Or rankings, following his hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen last season. Reflecting on his achievement, he emphasized the importance of teamwork. “Individual achievements are part of football, but this is a team game; my squad helps me a lot,” he said.
Lookman is also a top contender for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
