Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the conversion of ad-hoc workers across the 33 local government areas in the state to permanent staff. This announcement was made during the commissioning of the newly-constructed Local Government House and Staff Training School in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Makinde explained that the move aims to address workforce gaps at the local government level, ensuring that due process for the employment will be completed within four weeks.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting local governments to enhance the quality of life for citizens, aligning with his broader vision for the state. He also emphasized that the new facility would improve staff productivity by providing a conducive working environment.
Additionally, Makinde highlighted his administration’s efforts in paying leave bonuses to primary school teachers for the first time since 2017, and clearing pension and gratuity backlogs, with over N18 billion in pensions and N15 billion in gratuities already paid to retirees.
Makinde pledged further renovations of state facilities, aiming for transformation before the end of his tenure in 2027.
