The Nigerian Police has declared British national Andrew Wynne wanted for allegedly attempting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu. The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, made the announcement on Monday, linking Wynne to the ongoing investigation into the EndBadgovernance protests.
According to Adejobi, Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, fled Nigeria as investigations commenced. He is accused of orchestrating a network of sleeper cells aimed at destabilizing the country, with the ultimate goal of toppling the democratically elected government.
Wynne allegedly rented a space at Labour House in Abuja under the guise of an “Iva Valley Bookshop” and established “STARS of Nations Schools” as a cover for his activities. He is also accused of mobilizing billions of naira to fund protests, spread false information, and incite violence to create chaos in the country.
The police have already apprehended and arraigned ten suspects in connection with the case, charging them with Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime. The suspects include Angel Love Innocent, Opaluwa Eleojo Simeon, Michael Tobitoba Adaramoye, Suleiman Yakubu, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Abayomi Adeyemi, Abdulsalam Zubairu, Nuradeen Hamis, and Bashir Bello.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has activated INTERPOL and other global policing networks to locate and apprehend Wynne and his local coordinator, Lucky Ehis Obiyan. The IGP condemned the group’s activities and assured the public that the police would take all necessary steps to protect national security and bring the perpetrators to justice.
