Edozie Njoku, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has issued a stern warning to Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, cautioning against any attempts to undermine the party in the upcoming local government election. Njoku’s comments come in the wake of his recent recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party chairman, following a court order—a decision that has reportedly caused friction within the party ranks.
Speaking at a press briefing in Awka, Njoku, through the party’s National Administrative Secretary, Okoro Benedict, accused Governor Soludo of manipulating the state Assembly to hastily amend a two-week-old electoral law in a bid to block APGA’s participation in the September council elections. Njoku described these actions as illogical and unlawful, emphasizing that efforts to diminish the party’s influence in Anambra would not succeed.
He expressed disappointment over what he called a “flagrant display of paranoia” by the governor, who allegedly pushed for the law’s amendment to prevent the Njoku-led APGA from fielding candidates. Despite offering an olive branch and attempting reconciliation, Njoku claimed that the governor continued to engage in tactics aimed at weakening the party.
In a show of support, APGA leaders in Anambra passed a vote of confidence in the Njoku-led National Working Committee and the National Vice Chairman (South East) of the party, Tony-Uche Ezekwelu. They expressed optimism that the new leadership would steer the party forward despite the ongoing challenges.
