In a recent interview, popular singer Davido expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by Nigerian music icons such as P-Square, 2Face, and D’banj, acknowledging their role in paving the way for the current generation of artists.
Reflecting on his own journey, Davido discussed his first international deal with Sony Music in 2016. He recounted how, despite signing with Sony, he still had to reintroduce himself to the management team. The singer revealed that the album he made with Sony’s team didn’t meet his expectations and was considered a flop. Consequently, he returned to Nigeria to work with his own producers, who better understood the African style of music.
Davido emphasized that the success and relevance enjoyed by Nigerian artists today are a result of the hard work and sacrifices made by previous generations of artists. He specifically mentioned P-Square, 2Face, and D’banj as trailblazers whose contributions laid the foundation for the current thriving music industry in Nigeria. Davido believes that from the efforts of the present generation of artists, the upcoming generation will benefit even more.
