“Rejection Driving Many Artists to Drug Use,” MI Abaga Warns

-

Renowned Nigerian hip-hop artist and music executive, MI Abaga, has shed light on the underlying reasons behind the growing trend of drug abuse among artists.

Addressing the prevalent issue of mental health challenges within the entertainment industry, MI Abaga expressed deep concerns about the vulnerability of individuals in the creative field.

In an interview, he emphasized the constant exposure of creatives, including artists, to rejection, despair, and negativity, which significantly heightens their susceptibility to mental health struggles.

MI Abaga highlighted that the situation exacerbates for successful artists, leading many to resort to drug dependency as a coping mechanism.

“Creatives face immense mental health risks due to persistent rejection, feelings of hopelessness, and a pervasive sense of negativity. Even amid success, the challenges escalate, driving numerous artists towards substance abuse. It’s imperative to collectively address this issue and devise supportive measures for creatives in Nigeria and across Africa,” MI Abaga asserted.
