A tragic shooting at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, claimed the lives of Rubi Vergara, 14, and Erin West, 42, on Monday.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed their deaths after 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow opened fire on classmates and staff before taking her own life.

Rubi Vergara, remembered for her love of art, music, and family worship, was a cherished freshman. Erin West, a substitute teaching coordinator, was described as “kind and caring” by students.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes stated that the motive behind the attack remains unclear but may involve multiple factors. Authorities are investigating how Rupnow acquired two handguns.

Two students remain critically injured, and four others suffered minor injuries. The Madison community has united in grief, holding prayer gatherings for the victims and their families.

In a related development, California police issued a restraining order against a man who allegedly communicated with Rupnow and planned a separate attack. Investigations are ongoing.
