The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) recently announced a revenue loss of approximately N6 billion following a 12-day power outage that affected business and social activities in its service areas across Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states.
KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani, reported that the prolonged blackout led to significant challenges, including the vandalism of around 70 transformers. He added that the company is implementing load-shedding strategies, focusing on industrial and commercial areas to support economic activities, particularly in Kano, a key industrial center.
The outage reportedly stemmed from a tripping incident on the 330kV transmission line, disconnecting several northwestern and northeastern states from the national grid. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) worked to restore power, gradually re-establishing connectivity in affected northern communities. Power was ultimately restored on Wednesday, following coordinated efforts to balance electricity distribution between industrial and residential areas.
