President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan for being honored with the 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award in recognition of his contributions to peace and democracy.
In a statement released on Tuesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended Jonathan’s unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and democracy, which has earned him global recognition.
The president emphasized that the award reflects Jonathan’s dedication to peacebuilding and democratic progress across Africa and beyond. He also recalled Jonathan’s historic concession in the 2015 presidential election, which saw him peacefully hand over power to an opposition party—an act that strengthened Nigeria’s democratic reputation.
Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee for acknowledging leaders who are working to make the world a better place.
The Sunhak Peace Prize is a prestigious international award recognizing individuals and organizations that contribute significantly to peace, human development, and global prosperity.
