Awka – In a determined effort to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration, the Anambra State Police Command has launched Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping and Other Violent Crimes, a comprehensive initiative aimed at combating crime across the state.
Unveiling the operation at a press briefing in Awka, Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu described the move as a proactive step to restore public confidence and encourage residents and indigenes to return home safely for the festivities.
CP Orutugu stressed that the success of the security drive hinges on collaboration among various agencies. The operation includes the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army (302 Artillery Regiment), Navy (Naval Outpost), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Anambra State Vigilante Group.
“The security forces are now more motivated, and the operation provides a coordinated strategy to reclaim public spaces,” Orutugu stated. He added that the approach will be adaptive, with daily security briefings to monitor and respond to emerging threats.
The commissioner noted that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and other tactical units have been directed to conduct targeted raids on known criminal hideouts and hot spots throughout the state. Additionally, the operation will feature intelligence-led stop-and-search missions, joint patrols, and the strategic deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) for rapid response.
Orutugu called on the public to play an active role by providing timely and credible information to aid in the arrest and prosecution of kidnappers and other violent criminals. He also reminded officers to uphold professionalism and civility in their interactions with civilians.
Expressing appreciation for the support of the Anambra State Government and the public—particularly in repairing operational vehicles and APCs—Orutugu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to making the state safer.
“Together, we can make Anambra State a safer and more livable homeland for everyone,” he concluded.
