Police Summon NLC General Secretary Ugboaja for Questioning

The Nigeria Police Force has officially summoned Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation. The inquiry pertains to allegations involving criminal intimidation, conduct likely to breach public peace, and malicious damage to property.

This summons follows the interrogation of NLC President Joe Ajaero at the police headquarters over accusations of treason, terrorism financing, cybercrime, and other related charges.

The invitation was issued by the Commissioner of Police, Ibitoye Rufus Alajide, on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID), in a letter dated August 28, 2024. Ugboaja has been requested to appear at the FID Complex on Shehu Shagari Way, Garki, Abuja, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 11 a.m.

The letter states, “In furtherance of investigations into the alleged case of criminal intimidation, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and malicious damage to properties in which your name featured, you are requested to come along with Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID).”

Ugboaja is advised to report to the FID Complex, where he will be interviewed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police. The letter also provides contact details for further communication, stressing the importance of cooperation in the investigation.
