The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene and stop the alleged harassment of its members and innocent citizens in Edo State by the All Progressives Congress (APC). The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, made this appeal during a press briefing on Monday, accusing the APC of orchestrating the arrest of opposition leaders and supporters.
Ologunagba alleged that the APC, in collaboration with certain security operatives, is attempting to intimidate the electorate ahead of the September 21 gubernatorial election. He urged the IGP to take immediate action to prevent further tension in the state and ensure the release of detained Edo citizens.
“The PDP calls on the Inspector General of Police to stop the APC’s activities, which are causing friction between the people of Edo State and the police. The IGP must ensure the immediate and unconditional release of all detained Edo citizens,” Ologunagba stated.
He further emphasized that the PDP, committed to the rule of law, will not allow the APC to harass Edo residents. The party vowed to defend the democratic process and the will of the people in the upcoming election.
“The PDP stands firmly with the people of Edo State in protecting their state and democracy. Any attempt to subvert the will of the people in this election will face serious consequences,” Ologunagba concluded.
