The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) destroyed 1.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs in Ogun State on Saturday, April 12, 2025. The destruction took place in Ipara town along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and marked the first such exercise in Ogun, highlighting the command’s progress in combating drug abuse.
Tijana Rabe, the Narcotic Commander of Ogun NDLEA, hosted the event and emphasized the collaborative efforts of various security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, NSCDC, Army, Immigration, and Amotekun, in achieving this milestone. She also expressed gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his continuous support in the ‘War Against Drug Abuse’ campaign.
The destroyed substances included 123 kg of cocaine, 46.8 kg of heroin, 1.4 million kg of cannabis, 148,000 kg of codeine syrup, 1.544 kg of skuchies, 111 kg of methamphetamine, and various other illicit drugs seized across different zones and border points.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Maj.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), represented by Deputy Commander-General of Narcotics Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, stated that the operation reflects the agency’s commitment to ending drug abuse. He highlighted that Lagos and Ogun remain hotspots due to their international and land borders, attracting illicit drug activities. Marwa also noted that in the past four years, 10,572 drug offenders have been convicted and are now serving jail terms across the country.
