The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a directive warning flight crew members, particularly pilots, against working for multiple airlines concurrently. The NCAA emphasized that such actions are a serious violation of aviation regulations and pose a significant safety risk.
In a circular released on November 6, 2024, the Acting Director-General of the NCAA, Chris Najomo, outlined that working for multiple airlines is unprofessional and against NCAA regulations. The surveillance reports revealed this misconduct, which could compromise safety standards. The circular also clarified that flight simulators approved by the NCAA are specific to individual operators based on their training programs and standard operating procedures.
Effective from November 11, 2024, the NCAA warned that it would take enforcement actions against violators. The circular also outlined that simulator renewals would now be filed directly to the operators.
Capt. Mohammed Badamasi, a senior aviation expert, supported the NCAA’s stance, calling such practices a breach of professional ethics and legal agreements. He highlighted that pilots working for multiple airlines jeopardize the safety of the airline and risk insurance complications in the event of an accident.
This directive aims to ensure better adherence to aviation standards and improve safety across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
