The Defence Headquarters has initiated a comprehensive operation to track down the terrorists responsible for the recent attack on the convoy of Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni.
The convoy, en route from Maiduguri to Damaturu, was ambushed by terrorists, even though the governor was not present. Notable government officials, including the Secretary to Yobe State Government, Baba Wali, and the Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, were among those in the convoy.
In a statement on Sunday night, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operation, disclosed that the 29 Task Force Brigade troops intervened, rescuing the victims and recovering the two affected vehicles.
The convoy’s security personnel, including a military truck driver, four police escorts, and one DSS operative, sustained injuries. Unfortunately, one of the injured police officers succumbed to wounds upon reaching the hospital in Damaturu.
Maj. Gen. Buba assured that troops from the 29 Task Force Brigade, under their Commander, are conducting fighting patrols to locate and neutralize the attackers.
He stated, “Operations are ongoing to hunt and destroy the terrorists that perpetrated the attack.” The military remains committed to securing the region and eradicating terrorist threats.
