The Lagos State government has taken decisive action against noise pollution by sealing several establishments across the state, including churches and hotels. Notable among them are the Celestial Church of God and the Redeemed Christian Church of God, along with seven businesses in the Ikeja, Mushin, Gbagada, and Maryland areas.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the closures in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) stated that this crackdown is part of efforts to address noise and other environmental violations.
Among the establishments sealed were Vital Products Limited, A & P Nigeria Limited, Polite Anchorage and Suites, Terrag Inn Apartment, Evening Class Guest House, Charley’s Bar, and 7th Heaven Hotel & Suites. These businesses were found to be in violation of environmental regulations despite receiving multiple warnings from LASEPA.
Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards non-compliance with environmental laws. “We will not tolerate non-compliance with our regulations,” he affirmed.
