A recent video featuring veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo meeting former Nigerian First Lady Patience Jonathan has sparked a mix of reactions online.
In the video shared on Ozokwo’s Instagram, she was seen kneeling to greet the former first lady, an act that some found surprising given the cultural beliefs surrounding greetings among the Igbo community. In her post, Ozokwo expressed her admiration for Jonathan, saying, “Dame Patience Jonathan. You are loved. Thank you.”
The comment section reflected a variety of opinions. While many praised the meeting, others voiced their disappointment at Ozokwo’s gesture. Monalisa Chinda reminisced, “Miss her so much,” while others questioned the cultural implications of kneeling. Comments included: “But mama G is older than this woman,” and “I thought they said Igbos never bow to people in greeting.”
Many users celebrated the two women, referring to them as “great women” and “two queens.” Comments like “Mama Peace and Mama G” and “Two powerful women. Your energies are unmatched” highlighted their esteem in the community.
Patience Ozokwo, who has made significant strides in her career, is reflecting on her journey as she approaches 45 years in the industry. Last year, she expressed gratitude to her children for their sacrifices while she pursued her acting career, especially after receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Recently, comedian Basketmouth also celebrated Ozokwo on her birthday, recalling their conversation during a film project, where she affectionately called him her son and promised to support him without asking for payment or a contract. He expressed his gratitude for the guidance and warmth she showed him, feeling blessed to share a birthday with such an iconic figure.
