Donald Fast Foods, a popular eatery in Lekki Phase 1 owned by Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest, was shut down by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) due to persistent noise pollution. The establishment, which doubles as De Angels Night Club, was sealed on Sunday after multiple complaints from nearby residents over loud disturbances.
Despite receiving several warnings and abatement notices, the venue continued violating noise regulations, prompting LASEPA’s action. Lagos State Commissioner for Environment Tokunbo Wahab confirmed the closure in a post on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a video of loud music disrupting the neighbourhood at 2 a.m.
The closure is part of a broader effort by the Lagos government to curb noise pollution, especially in residential areas. This incident has also reignited debates on land use planning in Lagos and the need for strict zoning to prevent conflicts between business activities and residents’ quality of life.
Under current regulations, noise levels in residential areas are capped at 55 decibels during the day and 45 decibels at night. Businesses, especially those in entertainment, are required to operate in soundproof environments to minimise disturbances to nearby homes.
