Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke has emerged as a standout performer in Europe, ranking first among players for the most successful dribbles in Europe’s Top 5 leagues this season. The 26-year-old has successfully completed 23 dribbles, surpassing Barcelona’s promising talent Lamine Yamal by one.
Ejuke’s compatriot, Moses Simon, currently shines as the sixth-best dribbler, leading the French Ligue 1 with 20 successful dribbles in just 507 minutes. Following closely are Toulouse’s Yann Gboho and Le Havre’s Antoine Joujou, who have both recorded 15 dribbles, although Joujou achieved this in a shorter time of 298 minutes.
West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus ranks third on the list with 22 dribbles, while Fulham’s Adama Traore also makes an appearance in the rankings. Notably, Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid occupies the fifth spot with 21 successful dribbles, and Vinicius Junior is seventh with 18 dribbles, trailing behind Simon.
This ranking marks the second occasion Ejuke has been recognized as a top dribbler globally, underscoring his consistent performance since joining Sevilla in the summer transfer window. Dribbling has always been a key element of his game; he was previously ranked as the third-best dribbler in the world by the CIES Football Observatory in November 2021.
Ejuke’s journey has taken him through various leagues, including significant spells in the Netherlands, Russia, and Belgium, before his recent move to Spain. He made an immediate impact at Sevilla, scoring the match-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Real Valladolid last Tuesday, which he described as a vital win for the team.
He also contributed to Sevilla’s 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao last Sunday. With eight caps for the Super Eagles, Ejuke was part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he made two appearances as the team was eliminated in the round of 16 by Tunisia. He made his debut for Nigeria in a friendly match against Tunisia on October 13, 2020.
