In a bid to bring stability to Nigeria’s economic policies, the Save Nigeria Movement has embarked on public advocacy campaign to ensure that the Central Bank of Nigeria governor enjoys some level of immunity from endless legal actions.
The group in a statement by its convener Rev Solomon Semaka argued that unless the CBN enjoys some level of insulation, economic saboteurs will continue to frustrate government genuine intentions.
” We are are mindful of the implications of abuse of discretion but it’s important to grant minimum protection to critical public officials in other to minimise distraction in the line of their official duties”.
The group maintained that office of the CBN governor appears to be critical much more than state governors who enjoy almost absolute immunity.
“It doesn’t serve the country any good when the custodian of the nation’s treasury is being distracted with multiple legal actions in the cause of official duties.”
Rev Semaka further revealed that, 80% of legal actions against the CBN Governor are academic and frivolous according to available records.
“Most of the legal actions are a dead end from the beginning, but for the purpose of distabilising and discrediting the country leadership, people prefer to embark on them just to get back at government.”
In the interest of national economy and stability, we are sponsoring a bill to the National Assembly to ensure that this unnecessary distractions are limited by an act of parliament”.
We believe this will hasten our economic stability and ensure that every genuine policy of government is implemented without avoidable judicial reviews.
