Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralized two terrorists and destroyed several bandit hideouts in a sustained operation to rid Taraba State of criminal elements.

The military success was recorded under “Operation Lafiyan Jama’a,” a counter-insurgency campaign targeting armed groups in the state. Acting on credible intelligence, troops intercepted the movement of suspected bandits between Mayokan and Bondogri villages in Bali Local Government Area and engaged them in a gunfight near Garbatau, Garin Hamidu, Bandaguri, and Mayokan.

During the encounter, two terrorists were killed, while others fled with gunshot wounds. Weapons recovered from the scene included an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a single-barrel Dane gun, 27 arrows, and six cutlasses.

In a separate operation the same day, troops carried out a clearance patrol near Yamiri Village in Sarkin Kudu Ward, Ibi Local Government Area. Suspected bandits abandoned their camp upon sighting the advancing troops. Items recovered included a military camouflage uniform and a Bible, and the troops subsequently destroyed the hideout.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their gallantry and reaffirmed the Brigade’s dedication to maintaining peace and security in Taraba State. He called on residents to continue supporting the military with timely information and assured them of the Army’s unwavering resolve to protect lives and property.
