The Federal Government has handed Infiouest Construction Company a 14-month timeline to complete the reconstruction of Section II of the N777 billion Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road project. The new contract, valued at N525 billion, comes after the termination of the previous agreement with Julius Berger Nigeria Plc due to cost variation disputes.
Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, announced the new deadline during the official flag-off ceremony of Section II in Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. He emphasized that the project would be constructed using concrete-reinforced pavement for improved durability.
Umahi acknowledged Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his unwavering support in facilitating federal infrastructure development in the region. He expressed confidence in the timely delivery of the project, citing the administration’s commitment to infrastructure as a key driver of national development.
The 700-kilometre stretch from Abuja to Kano is being executed in three sections. While Section I covers Abuja and Section III lies in Kano, Section II—now handled by Infiouest—spans Kaduna. According to the minister, Julius Berger has substantially completed the Zaria-Kano segment in Section III.
“The president is not only completing the 280km of Section II,” Umahi said, “he has also approved an additional 11 kilometres to link the Kano section to Aminu Kano International Airport, ensuring seamless road connectivity.”
The completion of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and road accidents, while also boosting economic activities along the corridor.
