Bade Falade, a former member of the 6th National Assembly who represented Ede, Ejigbo, and Egbedore Federal Constituency in Osun State, has condemned the frequent turnover of lawmakers in Nigeria.
Speaking during *The Frontliners*, a program organized by the League of Veteran Journalists in Osun State, Falade emphasized the importance of legislative stability for effective governance. He argued that retaining experienced lawmakers ensures continuity and enhances legislative outcomes that directly benefit citizens.
Falade highlighted that mastering legislative duties requires years of learning and experience. He also criticized state governors who treat the National Assembly as a “political retirement home,” noting that many such individuals become liabilities due to their inexperience in legislative functions.
Addressing public concerns, Falade urged Nigerians to shift focus from lawmakers’ perks, such as emoluments and luxury cars, to their critical oversight roles, particularly in preventing financial leakages.
On the internal rift within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, he assured that efforts are underway to resolve conflicts between the factions of former governors Rauf Aregbesola and Adegboyega Oyetola. He expressed confidence in the party’s readiness to challenge the ruling government in the 2026 governorship election.
Falade also condemned the monopolization of local government elections by ruling parties and called for independent state electoral commissions to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level.
Earlier, Barrister Sunday Ojo Williams, who chaired the event, noted that the lack of political ideologies among Nigerian politicians contributes to their frequent party defections.
