The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that the rehabilitated Port Harcourt Refinery, with a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day, is currently producing at least 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Olufemi Soneye, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, debunked claims suggesting the refinery was inactive. He clarified that the facility operates at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans underway to increase it to 90%.

“For clarity, the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to ramp up to 90%,” Soneye stated.

The refinery is also producing other petroleum products daily, including:
– 900,000 liters of Kerosene
– 1.5 million liters of Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel)
– 2.1 million liters of Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO)
– Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha), blended into PMS.

This announcement comes amid efforts to boost local refining capacity and reduce dependence on fuel imports.
