The Organised Labour in Cross River State has instructed state civil servants to resume work on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, following the conclusion of a two-day warning strike. The directive was issued by Mr. Monday Ogbodum, the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, in a statement released in Calabar on Tuesday.
Ogbodum explained that the strike, which began at midnight on Sunday, November 24, was in protest against the state government’s failure to implement the new minimum wage. He noted that negotiations between labour and the government are scheduled to resume on Thursday.
In the statement, Ogbodum thanked workers for their compliance during the strike, describing it as a testament to their unity and determination.
“The strike committee wants to thank all workers for their total compliance in the just concluded warning strike. This demonstrates our collective resolve to ensure that our workers get their due. We appreciate your resilience despite the challenging working conditions,” he said.
The strike followed a breakdown in initial negotiations between the labour unions and the government, but it is hoped that upcoming discussions will yield positive results for the workers.
