Akwa United assistant coach Umar Abdullahi hailed the team’s 2-0 victory over Kano Pillars as a crucial morale booster. This win marked Akwa United’s first in the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, and Abdullahi emphasized the importance of building on this success as they continue their campaign.
“We are grateful that the needed boost we were expecting has finally come,” he stated in a post-match interview. He reflected on the frustration of starting the season with five matches without a win, highlighting that the players approached this game with a winning mentality, which ultimately paid off.
Abdullahi noted that goal scoring had been a significant challenge in previous matches, but the team had focused on improving this aspect during training. Looking ahead, Akwa United will face Rangers in their next NPFL match on Wednesday, aiming to maintain their momentum.
