Nigerian singer Sydney Esiri, popularly known as Dr Sid, has announced his relocation to the United States. During a recent appearance on the ‘No Man’s Friend’ podcast, the artist revealed that he moved to the U.S. after securing a job opportunity.
“I now live in the U.S. I left Nigeria last year after I got a job with a company in New York that offered me an opportunity to move to the States and live anywhere in the U.S.,” Dr Sid explained. He chose Houston, Texas, as his new home, citing family connections and the presence of his best friend in the area as key factors in his decision.
Dr Sid first gained fame in 2002 as a member of Da Trybe, contributing to the hip-hop hit ‘Oya’ alongside notable artists like Sasha and 2-Shotz. He released his debut solo single, ‘Don’t Stop,’ the following year, but later took a break from music to complete his dental degree.
After relocating to the UK, he collaborated with various artists, including JJC & the 419 Squad and D’Banj. In 2007, he left his dental practice to focus on music, signing with Don Jazzy’s Mo’ Hits Records. His debut studio album, ‘Turning Point,’ was released in April 2010, featuring popular tracks like ‘Over The Moon’ and ‘Pop Something.’
Following the split of Mo’ Hits Records in 2012, Dr Sid joined Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records and released his second album, ‘Siduction,’ in December 2013. He also ventured into acting in 2014, making his debut in Moses Inwang’s film ‘The Last 3 Digits.’
